Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection causing red sores that burst and form a golden crust, most often around the nose and mouth. It is common in children and spreads easily.
Our pharmacist will examine the affected skin and confirm whether it is impetigo. Where it is, and it is not widespread, treatment can be supplied straight away under NHS Pharmacy First.
It is very contagious, so we will explain how to avoid passing it on. Children can usually return to school 48 hours after starting treatment, or once the sores have crusted over and healed.
