Eczema, also called atopic dermatitis, is a common skin condition that causes dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. It can appear anywhere on the body but is often found on the hands, face, elbows, and behind the knees.
Scratching may make the skin sore, cracked, or infected. Eczema is common in children, but adults can also have it.
The condition may be linked to allergies, family history, stress, or irritants such as soaps and chemicals. Treatment includes moisturizing the skin regularly, avoiding triggers, and using medicated creams or tablets to reduce itching and inflammation.
