Canesten HC combines an antifungal with a mild steroid to relieve the itching, soreness, and inflammation of external vaginal thrush. It’s intended for women who have previously been diagnosed with thrush by a doctor and recognise the symptoms recurring.
Benefits: Treats both the fungal infection and the associated itching/inflammation in one product; external application; short 7-day course.
Side effects: Mild burning or irritation at the application site is possible. Not suitable for first-ever episodes of thrush, pregnancy, or women outside the 16–60 age range without medical advice — a pharmacist consultation is required before sale.
Canesten HC cream contains clotrimazole and hydrocortisone to treat fungal skin infections with inflammation and itching. It may help relieve irritation around the outer vaginal area caused by thrush but is not for internal vaginal use. Apply a thin layer exactly as directed for a short time only. Common side effects include mild burning, irritation, dryness, or skin thinning with prolonged use.
