Sinusitis causes facial pain and pressure, a blocked or runny nose, and sometimes a reduced sense of smell. Most cases follow a cold and are viral, clearing within two to three weeks without antibiotics.
Our pharmacist will ask how long you have had symptoms and how severe they are. Where the picture suggests a bacterial infection, or symptoms have persisted beyond ten days without improving, treatment can be supplied under NHS Pharmacy First.
For milder or early cases we will recommend a steroid nasal spray and symptom relief, which is often more effective than antibiotics. We will explain what to expect and when to come back.
