Liver function tests measure enzymes and proteins including ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin and albumin. Together they show how well the liver is working and whether it is under strain.
It is worth testing if you drink regularly, take medicines that affect the liver, have had abnormal results before, or simply want a baseline as part of a general health check.
We will explain what each figure means and how they relate to each other, since a single raised marker rarely tells the whole story. Where anything needs following up we will refer you to your GP.
