Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a long-term skin condition that causes thick, red patches of skin covered with silvery scales. It commonly affects the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back, but it can appear anywhere on the body.

The condition happens when skin cells grow too quickly and build up on the surface of the skin. Psoriasis may cause itching, pain, or cracking of the skin.

It is not contagious, but it can run in families. Triggers such as stress, infections, cold weather, and some medicines may worsen it. Treatment includes creams, light therapy, tablets, and lifestyle changes.
